Dear Temple Of Goo readers,
One of our users needs your help! They would like to know what kind of guitar John Rzeznik is playing in the “There You Are” music video. The clip is shown below as reference.
If you know the answer, please publish your thoughts in the comments section at the end of this post.
I asked that particular question one time, and someone told me it was a custom ESP something-or-other with an extra pickup (I’m assuming the black piece)—I don’t know all the technical guitar names.
Apparently he’d destroyed an old guitar he used to have; which I believe was a white guitar which he had doodled all over, used a ton during 1989 shows. He had it refurbished and painted yellow, and that was his main guitar for years. At the end of 1993, he taped the thing in black electric tape—best seen in the Only One music video—and doodled “boing” under the strings. That was a main guitar used during the ABNG tours. Then, in 1998, he repainted it again and added a marbled piece—again, I don’t know what the specific name for that is—complete with a “lawyers suck” sticker. I saw that guitar played until 2002. No idea if he still has it, but maybe he does?
Hope this helps
