After many years, one of the harder-to-unearth live performances from the band is now finally available to you all.
Everybody knows VH1 Storytellers is probably one of the most loved live performances the Goo Goo Dolls ever put out. The project was a great initiative because it allowed bands to also explain details about the background of the songs they performed.
The Goo Goo Dolls episode of the show featured a total of 10 songs, although only nine of them were aired. Well, actually I should say eight and a quarter, since for “Name” only the last 50 seconds of the performance were used as an intro to the episode itself. The missing song, “Lucky Star“, was never aired and only featured as a streamable audio track on the network’s official website, before it was taken down mere weeks later.
Thanks to one of my sources, we can finally enjoy it in all of its glory. Not only that, but it also comes with the explanation (Story) for what drove Robby to actually write it. The bassist himself talks about the inspiration behind the song before the latter gets played.
As a refresher, below is a list of all the various Storytellers posts we have published so far. Different rips of the show had been available online ever since it took place.

Today, we therefore add “Lucky Star” to our archive and hope that someday, somehow, a the full take for “Name” also makes its appearance.
As far as the audio is concerned, I find the overall quality to be slightly lower than the audio version I linked above. My speculation is that whoever ripped this did it from the aforementioned website, as the source for those streams back then was pretty weaker in quality when compared to today’s standards. Nonetheless, this is certainly extremely rare material that finally anyone can enjoy (if they ever visit the Temple, that is…)
Alright, I’m not going to keep you in suspense any longer and I’ll just leave you to enjoy this little gem, finally unearthed from the depths of the dark web by a great contributor of the Temple who wishes to remain anonymous.
