Just the way you rustle

My brand-new in-ear headphones made me discover something quite shocking while listening to the Goo Goo Dolls’ classic “Just The Way You Are“. There is a quite prominent rustling / crackling sound at the minute 00:12-00:13, right when John sings “…Know You…”. The distortion is also present in the 2001 remaster at the same time frame, and even more noticeable there.

Usually, when albums are remastered audio engineers tend to fix those mistakes. In this case, they clearly didn’t. This was likely a recording issue that was never addressed in post-production back in 1990. I’m sure John Armand Petri, the album’s producer, completely missed it. And so did the crew who worked on the 2001 remasters.

Anyhow, I just wanted to point this out. Are my ears playing tricks on me or is the hellish noise really there?
