Blog News: Temple of Goo to lose its dotcom domain in a few weeks

Dear Temple of Goo readers,

As previously anticipated in this post, the blog will lose its dotcom domain in a few weeks. As far as the time frame is concerned, this should happen around late December or early January 2026. The blog will then revert to its original WordPress subdomain.

This means that, after the switch takes place, you will see a blank page if you try to connect to the current address. Hence, make sure to update your bookmarks.

In a nutshell:

  • The address http://www.templeofgoo.com will not be working after the switch, and you won’t get access to our main page through it anymore
  • The original address http://www.templeofgoo.wordpress.com is currently working (it was never disabled in the first place) and will be the ONLY way to access the Temple after the aforementioned switch

The main reason why I decided to let go of the dotcom domain is the excessive personal expenses I’ve had to deal with over the past couple of years, which have required me to be more careful with my spending than usual. At this point, I don’t find it worthwhile to invest more money than I can currently afford, given the blog’s low monthly views and lack of revenue generation.

Please keep in mind that this decision is not final, and things could change next year as I stabilize my personal investments.

Do not worry — the Temple’s mission continues. The only thing changing is where you will find it online.

Thank you for your continued support

Blog News: Temple of Goo reaches 100k views… With minimal efforts!

Dear Temple of Goo readers,

This is just a quick post to celebrate the fact Temple of Goo has broken through the psychological threshold of 100k all-time views.

WordPress sent us a message, detailing the fantastic news.

Needless to say, this achievement wouldn’t be possible without the precious help of all our Contributors, along with each single reader who decided to honor us with their clicks on a whatever Temple post they decided to check out.

This victory is a bittersweet one, for reasons I’ve already explained in a couple of occasions, a prime example being this one. Hence why I titled this post “With minimal effort”. The blog has been pretty much silent ever since 2025 began. That is not for lack of trying to push out content, but rather due to the latter being extremely scarce as of late. Despite such scarcity, we keep getting views on daily basis, ranging from 80 to 120 every single day. That means the blog is now well-integrated within the Goo Goo Dolls community websites indexed by search engines, and easy to locate through the latter as well.

Nevertheless, we will continue doing our thing, and release stuff as soon as we get our hands on it. In the meantime, we hope you will continue visiting us whenever you feel like doing so!

See you again when (if) we reach 200k.

Blog News: Silence before the storm?

Dear Temple Of Goo readers,

I would like to apologize about the recent lack of updates and material. Well, not so recent I should day, as this phenomenon has been going on for several weeks now. In December I wrote about it and detailed the reasons why it is happening. The life of an Old Goo Eras fan is tough indeed.

I’ve been trying to spice things up for a while now, by presenting to the audience some small side projects mainly involving AI. As of late I began publishing AI-Generated Instrumentals of Goo Goo Dolls albums, but I had to put that one initiative back in the drawer as I lost access to the most recent models for that purpose. I did “Superstar Car Wash” and “A Boy Named Goo” before the developers of those models took them offline for fixing purposes. Hopefully they will be back soon, and better than before.

As far as actual, pure Goo Goo Dolls material, nothing new under the sun. All of my sources tell me there is nothing new nor old to share, and the scene is basically dormant. Rest assured, as soon as I get my hands on something, it will be posted here.

Is this the silence before the storm? I sure hope so. The blog has been pushing out content almost on a daily basis for two and a half years, up until the end of 2024. Maybe it reached its peak and from now on it’s all downhill, or maybe not.

We shall see.

In the meantime, we await for the band to announce their new studio album, which I suspect has been postponed until late 2025, if not until sometime next year. Why do I think that? Because they just recently decided to release a 30th Anniversary Edition of their fifth album this March. We knew both John and Robby hinted and the new full length to be out before the 2025 Summer Tour (they were likely indicating May or June as possible release windows), however, from a commercial perspective, having two albums out a few weeks apart is never recommended.

Let’s see what happens. I hope I’m wrong.

Blog News: An explanation on why the blog was shut down, and how the Temple will be different from now on

Dear Temple Of Goo readers,

I’m sure you’ve noticed the blog was down for the past couple of weeks or so. Today the website is back online and fully operational. Or so to speak…

Unfortunately, I have some information to report that you will find has fundamentally changed the ways in which the Temple Of Goo will operate from now on. In this post you will be able to read the motivations behind these profound changes, that at this stage are compulsory in order to keep the site operating.

The day before Christmas someone close to the small team working behind the scenes for this project threatened to sue me. They did it in a way as to strike me by impersonating someone else. When I realized the person making those threats was the same one who had been collaborating with the Temple for several months, I immediately banned them and put the site on hold. I will not divulge the identity of this individual, however rest assured they are no longer part of our team and they have been banned from the website.

I do not take these threats lightly, especially when the legal route is being wielded. Because of this person’s actions, the following decisions have been taken:

  • All of the download links which are present in the posts categorized under the “Download” category have been taken down. Downloads will no longer be offered directly by the Temple here. More info below.
  • The initiatives named “Unified Download Center” and “Archive.org Preservation Project (APP)” have been terminated. This includes our official Archive.org profile.
  • The official YouTube channel has been left intact, and will be our primary source for diffusing audio/video material.
  • From now on, only pictures and trivia will be published on the blog. No more audio or video content will be posted directly by us. To clarify, the Temple will still create posts about concerts, video clips, etc… BUT ONLY if the files are posted by the Contributors themselves by using the storage service(s) of their choice. The Contributors will be responsible for publishing their digital files, not the Temple anymore, and they are encouraged to send our way the links to those files they want to share through us.
  • Beginning Late 2025 / Early 2026, the website will lose its “dot com” domain, and revert back to its original address: templeofgoo.wordpress.com — You will be notified in due time so you can change your bookmarks.

I do realize these are very drastic changes to this little blog. I am confident that 100% of the users who are reading this are discouraged to keep interacting with the Temple, and a vast majority of them will not return here anymore. Please notice that the restrictions above have been taken under heavy consideration before being enforced. It’s funny that it was mere days ago when I wrote this post about what 2025 would bring to the Temple. Well, here’s what it brought.

I’ll be frank and admit that for several days I had actually opted to completely shut down the blog for good. In the end, out of respect for the many Contributors who have shared with us their rare and precious Goo Goo Dolls material, and in honor of all the numerous trivia and myriad of pictures which are extremely rare to find somewhere else that we accumulated here, I decided to take an alternative route, that is the one that I am explaining today.

The Temple Of Goo will mainly be, from now on, an informational source.

As far as I am concerned, I feel like I have done more than I initially opted to do with the Temple Of Goo, and I am glad a lot of people have loved and appreciated my efforts to turn this little corner of the internet into a safe home for fans of the earlier incarnations of the band. This always was and always will be a niche project, though I’ve had the privilege to interact with numerous amazing people through it, and I will never get tired of thanking them for their precious services. I hope the Temple has diffused the most content it could have possibly have shared with the highest amount of fans it could have possibly have reached, and I also hope to have inspired others to carry the torch.

The Temple Of Goo will continue its journey, although it will be a very different (and limited) one from now on.

Blog News: Back to slowdown mode for 2025?

Dear Temple Of Goo readers,

I already wrote about the infamous “Slowdown Mode” in the past, so I won’t bother you much with the details. In a nutshell, because this is a niche blog which mainly focuses on older Goo Goo Dolls material, we tend not to have at our disposal plenty of content to share at all times, given the fact that what we like to post is not as popular and widespread as say, content from the last ten to fifteen years.

So far we’ve done very good, with a total of 259 releases (according to our Download Category) since the website’s inception, which was back in April 2022. Needless to say, this record was achieved thanks to the precious contributions coming from our amazing Contributors, who have decided to take the next step (when it comes to interacting with a given site) and provided our community with their own rare material.

On the other hand, I also do searches and keep in touch with my sources hoping for more content to be sent my way, before redirecting it your way. I’ll be frank with you and admit that during the past months, at least since March or thereabouts, I obtained literally zero new content. Nothing was provided from my sources, nothing I was able to find by myself. The blog mostly kept going, pushing out material thanks to the interventions of contributors like Ryne, Bailey, and Christina. As far as the latter is concerned, we actually just published her last content from the latest batch she forwarded a long time ago.

As a consequence, as of this moment we have run out of things to share, and the blog is officially (again) on Slowdown Mode. What does it mean?

It means we will only post and publish releases when we get them, IF we get them.

How long will the Slowdown Mode last? Who knows. I will keep doing my best trying to find more stuff, and will even use my creativity to see if I can post something else created directly by me (I am thinking that, among a few ideas I got, AI-generated remixes and the likes could be a nice way to keep the blog alive). On the other hand, my sources keep saying that they will reach out to me as soon as they get their hands on something. We’ll see what happens.

The upcoming year 2025 is supposed to be very busy for the Goo Goo Dolls, but unfortunately it looks a bit grim for the Temple. The band will likely release a new album before the Summer Tour, as it’s been hinted many times during the most recent interviews both by John and Robby. Meanwhile, the Temple will probably run dry for most of it, unless we get an influx of stuff.

Whatever will happen in 2025, rest assured we will keep doing our best as usual. The Temple Of Goo will hopefully keep rising, and will try to offer the best available Old Goo content to those who will grant it with the occasional visit.

As we await for the new year to kick in, the Temple wishes you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Blog News: Dis-unifying the Unified Download Center (Again)

It was bound to happen.

We all knew it had to happen.

Then it happened.

I already wrote in the past that changes were sadly taking place to the Unified Download Center, a project which aimed at providing users with a bird’s eye view of all the downloadable content posted in our blog and archived under the Download category.

In recent times, we even had to resolve to drastic measures in order to try and save as much virtual disk space as possible when it came to both new and older releases.

This is a story as old as the internet itself. Running an online service? Prepare yourself to be careful and well organized because sooner or later, those files you want to share with the world will begin struggling for more room as their little, tiny corner of the web gets more and more crowded.

The main purpose of the Unified Download Center, as you all know, was to offer a single online section where users could easily browse and download all of the amazing content our Contributors provided to us all. This service runs through Mega, a very reliable and fast file storage portal. Months ago our primary Mega profile got clogged, and we were forced to open a second profile. Monetary issues, as discussed here, were at the core of such decision. As a consequence, the Unified Download Center lost its main goal, as from that moment on the place where to find our releases was not a singular entity anymore, but rather two district ones functioning under the same umbrella.

Today, we are forced to extend that number (Mega profiles) to three. In fact, the latest release we put out completely filled our second Mega profile, so we decided to sign up for a third one, furthering dis-unifying the Unified Center.

You can find the link to the new, third Mega profile here, by scrolling down and locating the Mega logos.

Like I wrote in the past, in the end the APP initiative ended up becoming the real unified place for all the Temple’s stuff, though unfortunately it is quite buggy and slow, especially for users who browse it from outside the USA.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience, and we hope this further fragmentation of one of our services won’t bother you that much.
