MTV Spring Break Rocks (1996)

Today’s release is from contributor Christina, who provided her own version of a video clip which is already present on YouTube.

In 1996 the Goo Goo Dolls certainly boosted their TV appearances thanks to the unexpected nationwide success of “A Boy Named Goo”. Their participation to the MTV network includes numerous programs, such as Spring Break. We have already posted their 1999 appearance, and now we add one more to our archive for a different year.

This video is already watchable on YouTube thanks to user Ryan Kirkpatrick. Christina’s version has worse quality but we feel like posting it nonetheless, because you never know when the original upload may disappear into nothingness from one minute to the next. This way, at least there is one backup copy in place for the latecomers.

Christina has some thoughts about it:

Fair warning that my copy is noticeably worse quality.

The band performed “Naked” and “Name” as part of MTV’s annual Spring Break event, and we also get a short clip of Bush talking about their tour together. I love the utter chaos of Robby throwing his bass into a swimming pool at the end. I wonder if the very, very wet audience member who retrieved it still has it.

We obviously have a VHS rip here with the standardized 640x480p encoding format. Quality-wise, not too good but still pretty enjoyable for the precious content that it offers.
